OPENING NIGHT • FIRST KOREAN FILM IN TIFF PLATFORM • 2025 WARSAW FIPRESCI PRIZE WINNER

The inaugural LA Korean Film Festival: New Waves, New Voices opens with The World of Love, directed by Yoon Ga-eun. The film was the first Korean film ever selected for the Platform competition at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival and received the 2025 FIPRESCI Prize at the Warsaw International Film Festival.

Director Yoon Ga-eun and actress Seo Su-bin will join audiences for a post-screening Q&A.

This program is organized as part of the Sejong Culture Academy program of the King Sejong Institute Center, U.S.A.

SYNOPSIS

What kind of person does she look like to you? Enigmatic 17-year-old high school student Lee Joo-in is a cheerful friend, a shameless daughter, a mischievous girlfriend, and a person always hard to predict. One day, some words she says in a fit of anger cause a major scene. Afterwards, she receives anonymous notes questioning her behavior, and cracks begin to appear in her formerly peaceful world.

“Lee Jooin, who is the real you?” Will Jooin, who wanted nothing more than to protect her world, be able to go back to how things used to be? Director Yoon Ga-eun and actress Seo Su-bin will join audiences for a post-screening Q&A.

GUEST BIOS

YOON GA-EUN is an acclaimed filmmaker known for her sensitive portraits of childhood and adolescence. Her feature debut The World of Us premiered in the Berlin International Film Festival’s Generation section and earned her Best New Director at the Blue Dragon Film Awards and Best Screenplay at the Baeksang Arts Awards. Her films also include The House of Us.

SEO SU-BIN leads The World of Love as Jooin, anchoring the film’s complex portrait of a teenager whose relationships and sense of self begin to fracture.
