- No art materials will be provided. Participants are required to bring their own drawing materials. Please refer to the Art Materials to Bring to Class section below for full details.
WHAT?
In this intermediate pen ink drawing course, participants will be able to acquire more pen and ink drawing techniques and develop a personal style while discovering the heritage and culture of a city at the same time. The lessons will be conducted based on the pulse of a city focusing on any topic from streetscape, food, daily activities, people, costumes and festivals.
Course Outline
Session 1: Introducing pen and ink techniques through a local food or festival
Session 2: Exploring expressive lines, shapes, pattern and textures through object or streetscape
Session 3: Capturing light shade and shadow while appreciating everyday items or landmark
Session 4: Learning to see and draw big shapes from a complex local scene or activity
Session 5: Playing with colour washes via floral and fauna or other subjects
Session 6: Delving in perspective and oblique lines to bring out the city charm
Learning Outcomes
· Attain higher proficiency in pen and ink for creating expressive lines, textures, and tones
· Gain confidence in realising personal style
· Apply art elements and compositions thus improving art appreciation through pen and ink
· Build self-reliance in using pen and ink for personal artistic creation

· 3 Uni-Ball Signo broad 1.0 black UM-153
· 1 water colour set (such as Van Gogh 12+3 pocket box OR Winsor & Newton travel set 12 half pans OR Winsor & Newton fine colour set 12. Possible to mix and match)
· 1 water brush either Pental or Holbein or Kuretake
· 20 sheets of A4 size 135-gram cartridge papers (e.g. A'zone cartridge paper or Besform)

Trainer Bio:
TIA BOON SIM is an art and design educator in a local polytechnic for the past 32 years. TIA, as she is affectionally called, is an Architect by training and holds a Master in Art and Design Education from the world-renowned Pratt Institute in New York City. TIA is the Founding Director of Urban Sketchers and Founder of Urban Sketchers Singapore. Her paintings were made into stamps and first day covers to commemorate the Singapore National Day in 2011. She is also the independent publisher for two books “Urban Sketchers Singapore” Volume 1 in 2011 and Volume 2 in 2015.

Log into your SkillsFuture Portal to confirm you have sufficient SkillsFuture Credit balance (Take note: $4K SkillsFuture Career Transition Credits CANNOT be used for Brahm Centre courses).

Step 2 (on Eventbrite Website): Securing your ticket.
On Eventbrite, search for the course you are interested in.

Step 3 (on Eventbrite Website): Select correct ticket type & complete registration.
Select the intended Ticket Type (either SkillsFuture or SkillsFuture + Material) and complete your registration. Upon successful registration, you will receive a confirmation e-mail containing information about the course.
Save/Screenshot the confirmation. (you will use this in the following steps)
Step 4 (on Skillsfuture Website): Submit your SkillsFuture claim.
Go back to the SkillsFuture Portal to submit a claim under 'E-Services'.

Please submit your SkillsFuture credit claim 60 days BEFORE the course commencement, for it to be valid. Deadline to submit SFC Claim is one week prior to course commencement.
Step 5 (on Skillsfuture Website):
If your SFC submission was completed successfully, the status of your submission would reflect as "PENDING".
Your registration is confirmed after your SkillsFuture claim status reflect as "APPROVED".
*Should you choose to cancel your SFC claim before the start date, Brahm Centre reserves the right to impose a penalty fee for course withdrawal.
Notes:
- There are NO make-ups if you miss any of the art sessions.
- Missing a session does not disqualify you from taking part in the course - the trainer is not obligated to recap what was missed.
- Brahm Centre reserves the right to replan the course should the trainer be unable to conduct the class due to unforeseen circumstances.
