NEW! Stitch Hidden Messages: Embroidery Workshop inspired by Mary Queen of Scots

Uncover the fascinating stories stitched into the embroideries associated with one of history’s most captivating queens. This relaxed and inspiring three-hour workshop explores the symbolic meanings behind motifs such as the thistle, marigold, and bee—designs that conveyed messages of identity, faith, loyalty, and resilience during a turbulent period of British history.
Led by experienced tutors from the Peterborough Cathedral Sacristy Stitchers, you will be introduced to traditional counted-work techniques inspired by the embroidery Mary created during her years of captivity. Using cross stitch, tent stitch, and blackwork on 16-count Aida fabric, you will begin your own historically inspired design to take home and complete.
Whether you are completely new to embroidery or an experienced stitcher, this workshop offers a rewarding opportunity to develop skills, enjoy a mindful creative experience, and connect with the artistry and symbolism of the Tudor and Stuart courts.

All participants are invited to bring:
8″ embroidery hoop
Embroidery scissors
Cross stitch needle (size 22, 24, or 26)

Beginners with no prior experience
Intermediate and experienced stitchers
Those interested in history, heritage crafts, and textile arts
Experienced stitchers will also recognise this as an extension workshop, building on techniques explored in previous blackwork sessions.
