New Sisterhood: 1980s feminism and us

Feminism now, and feminism then - what has changed, and what do we know or remember? We're gathering contemporary voices to create a New Sisterhood zine, podcast, exhibition display, and live performance.

In this fascinating and fierce evening with one of our archive poets-in-residence, Julie Easley, we'll draw inspiration from the pioneering work of the Cleveland County Council's Equal Opps Unit and the many women's projects, groups and helplines that contributed articles and poetry to 1980s zine 'Sisterhood'. We'll use materials from Teesside Archives to spark poetry reflecting on our relationship to the women's rights and LGBT+ activism of the 1980s.

Women-centred, inclusive of trans women and AFAB/NB poets comfortable in women-centred spaces.

Poems from this session can be put forward to the New Sisterhood zine.

Doors open at 5.30pm for anyone who has 1980s feminist/activist memorabilia or ephemera to loan to our exhibition display - zines, flyers or posters for marches or benefit gigs, button badges, photos, etc.
