Another instalment in the New Routes series, an evening of acoustic, folk and roots artists.
Set out cabaret style with candles on tables, it’s a comfortable and intimate space to listen to the best emerging and established artists from the area.
Featuring…
Amy Hollinrake
Amy Hollinrake’s work draws on women’s stories within folklore and mythology and fuses them with a contemporary sound placing her at the forefront of the new era of feminist neo-folk. Inspired by English and Appalachian folk fused with sonic elements of medieval lament and alternative pop music, musical touchstones include Joanna Newsom, Joni Mitchell and Olivia Chaney. Her recent EP ‘Sad Lady Songs Vol.1’ was described as ‘absolutely haunting’ (BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour) and ‘Both timeless and utterly contemporary’ (Songwriting Magazine). Amy has performed at numerous festivals and at notable shows at Cambridge Junction, Green Note, Kings Place, and Royal Albert Hall, with her music garnering attention from the likes of BBC 6 Music’s Marc Riley and Tom Robinson, BBC Introducing and BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour.
Hollinrake is also the founder of project Loathly Lady, a creative feminist cataloguing project exploring gendered narratives in traditional music. This launched last year alongside a Zine publication at Cafe OTO and she is developing a podcast around gendered archetypes in folk song. She is a former awardee of EFDSS, Help Musicians and the Bert Jansch Foundation for her work.
Other projects include facilitating English National Opera’s programme Breathe. She is also a session singer and her vocals have also appeared on projects for Disney (The Little Mermaid) 20th Century Fox (The Boogyman) and Sony BMG (‘Further’ Don Broco).

Cambridge based Singer-songwriter Melody Coles has lived and breathed the music scene for a number of years now. Having sung at Thatchers Sessions presented by Huw Stephens, supported a number of respected folk acts including Megson, and gained past radio support from BBC Introducing and Radio 1, she’s enjoying being back at it after having her two children. She’s releasing new music for 2024, and is ready to take to the stage with her folk infused, emotive, storytelling songs.
