Interested in becoming a soccer referee?This entry-level U.S. Soccer Grassroots Referee Course is the first step to getting certified and working youth soccer games in our area.
Referees are a critical part of the game—and this is a great opportunity for:
• High school students
• College students
• Parents
• Former players
• Community members
⚽ Why Become a Referee?
✔ Learn the Laws of the Game
✔ Build confidence, leadership, and decision-making skills
✔ Stay active and involved in soccer
✔ Get paid (youth refs often earn $20–$50 per game)
✔ Flexible scheduling
📝 Course Details
• Course Type: Grassroots Referee Certification
• Format: Online coursework + required in-person clinic
• Who Can Register: Youth and adults (minimum age set by U.S. Soccer)
• Certification: Required to officiate U.S. Soccer–sanctioned matches
💡 Local Support
The Third Team Officials Association will support you through:
• Registration questions
• First games and mentoring
• Assignments with local clubs (including Grand Rapids area matches)
Once certified, new referees can begin working games quickly.
