New Normal Day: How Artificial Intelligence is reforming Film & TV industries in China, 2026
go.uwe.ac.uk/NewNormal
Throughout history, we’ve invented radio, TV, the internet, and now artificial intelligence to “make the world a better place”. In 2026, while the Chinese government invested heavily in Generative AI at the national level, leading to a surge in resources for AI video creation. This has had a profound impact on the industry; thousands are losing or changing jobs, and graduating students are having difficulties to secure junior positions. As students, practitioners, and teachers, what can we learn from these phenomena, and how should we deal with these phenomena that have already occurred? This question remains to be answered by this Knowledge Exchange Workshop.
Supported by the Pervasive Media Studio & Creative Technologies Lab. Xingzhi [GiGi] Zheng (Lecturer in Digital Media) & Wing Lam (Student of BSc Digital Media) will deliver the Knowledge Exchange workshop of “The New Normal Day” on the 16th of July 2026, in the Watershed. We invite students, academics, industry, and community members to join us. Participants are invited to explore the use of Generative AI in our professional practices.
