About this Event
The Provincial Congress of New Jersey meeting in Burlington declared New Jersey independent of Great Britain on July 2, 1776, two days before the Continental Congress down the river in Philadelphia adopted the Declaration of Independence of the United States.
Follow the action 250 years ago as delegates from Somerset County debated and adopted declarations of independence on both sides of the Delaware River in June and July 1776.
Paul Soltis is the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's historian for Rockingham State Historic Sites, George Washington's final wartime headquarters in Franklin Township, Somerset County. Paul contributes to Revolution NJ, New Jersey's official observance of the 250th anniversaries of the American Revolution from 2024 - 2033.
