Az Alexi Tuomarila Quartet repertoárját a zenekarvezető kompozíciói alkotják, amelyekben mind a négy zenész dallami és harmóniai kézjegye megmutatkozik, ugyanakkor a főszerep a nyitottságé és a spontán interakcióké marad. Alexi Tuomarila egy évtizeden át turnézott a legendás lengyel trombitással, Tomasz Stankóval; Sphere című lemezét a BBC Music Magazine a hónap albumának választotta, és elnyerte a finn Grammyként is ismert EMMA díjat. Bendik Hofseth a Steps Ahead zenekarban vált ismertté, Michael Brecker utódaként. Markku Ounaskari számos lemeze az ECM Records kiadásában jelent meg, míg Mikael Saastamoinen a finn improvizációs szcéna fiatalabb generációját képviseli, több projektben dolgozott együtt például az Opusban is nagy sikert aratott Linda Fredrikssonnal.

The Alexi Tuomarila Quartet brings together four distinctive voices from the Nordic jazz scene: Finnish pianist and composer Alexi Tuomarila, Norwegian saxophonist Bendik Hofseth, bassist Mikael Saastamoinen and drummer Markku Ounaskari. Tuomarila has built an international career as a pianist, composer and bandleader, with acclaimed releases on Edition Records. His album Sphere received a five-star review and Album of the Month from BBC Music Magazine and won the Finnish Jazz EMMA Award. In 2025, he was named Pori Jazz Artist of the Year. Tuomarila also performed and toured for a decade with legendary Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stanko.
Bendik Hofseth came to international prominence after succeeding Michael Brecker in the celebrated American group Steps Ahead, touring and recording with the band for several years. Markku Ounaskari is one of Finland's most internationally recognised jazz musicians, with an extensive discography including numerous ECM recordings. Mikael Saastamoinen represents a younger generation of Finnish improvisers and is known for his work with Linda Fredriksson, including the acclaimed Juniper project, and with Superposition.
Together, the quartet explores Tuomarila's compositions through a highly interactive approach, combining strong melodic and harmonic identities with openness, space and spontaneous interplay. The quartet recorded new music at Yle, Finland's national broadcasting company, with the resulting album scheduled for release in early 2027.
Featuring:
Bendik Hofseth – saxophone
Alexi Tuomarila – piano
Mikael Saastamoinen – double bass
Markku Ounaskari – drums
