Thinking about starting the OPAL programme at your school?

Join us and be inspired by observing one of the best school playtimes in the country. Where kids get muddy, build dens, take risks, explore, experiment and achieve every single day!

The OPAL Primary Programme supports schools to develop key areas around policy, planning, risk management, staffing, design, grounds development, resources and playwork training.

12:40pm-1:30pm Observation of playtime

Come see a OPAL playtime in action - ask the children about how they manage risk and the grown-ups about the changes they have seen.

1:30pm-2pm Welcome from the headteacher

Join the headteacher to hear about their journey to outstanding playtimes and take the opportunity to ask questions.

2pm-2:30pm Introduction to OPAL

Ingrid Wilkinson, Director of OPAL NE, introduces the OPAL Primary Programme.

St Cuthbert's is a vibrant, community minded primary school for 170 pupils in Botcherby, Carlisle where every child has an amazing playtime, every day. Pupils of all ages play together on the large site where they make the most of all of the sports field, woodland areas and playgrounds. The passionate play team has worked hard since April 2023 to create numerous areas in which children can play, relax and have fun. Come along and hear about their progress and see a buzzing OPAL school in action for yourself!

The OPAL Primary Programme is an award-winning mentor supported school improvement programme that addresses all the areas that schools must plan for if they want to strategically and sustainably improve the quality of their play opportunities.
