New Granada Phase I Grand Opening and Celebration
About this Event
Join the Hill Community Development Corporation and the University of Pittsburgh as we celebrate the completion of Phase I of the Historic New Granada and the opening of the University of Pittsburgh's Hill District Community Engagement Center.
After decades of vacancy, this nearly 100-year-old landmark has been stabilized, restored, and returned to service as a cornerstone of the Hill District.
Phase I included the restoration of the iconic Art Deco façade, rehabilitation of the historic Pythian Temple entrance on Wylie Avenue, reinstallation of the historic marquee, comprehensive structural stabilization of the building, installation of critical life safety systems, and completion of the University of Pittsburgh's Hill District Community Engagement Center as a key, long-term institutional anchor.
For the first time in decades, the Historic New Granada stands fully stabilized, illuminated, activated, and ready to enter its next act.
As dusk approaches, the celebration continues with a block party featuring a live DJ and food trucks. The lighting of the historic New Granada marquee—the first time it has been illuminated in decades—will cap the celebrate. It will be a memorable time for all!
