MEET THE PEOPLE WHO SHOWED UP. HEAR THEIR STORIES. SHARE A BOWL OF SANCOCHO.
Join us Friday, October 30 at 5:30 PM for the opening of María: ¿Qué es un huracán?
Meet Manolo López, his co-curators, and some of the Puerto Rican chefs who were boots on the ground after Hurricane María, cooking for communities when institutions failed. They’ll prepare homemade sancocho, just as they did in the storm’s aftermath, bringing people together through food, care, and solidarity.
Through Manolo’s archive and lived experience, explore stories of survival, loss, and the people who stepped up for one another.
Nearly a decade later, unreliable water, electricity, and weakened public systems leave us asking: When does a hurricane end?
Come meet the chefs, experience the exhibition, and share a meal that carries a powerful story.
