Never Mind the Dressage
All of the jumping. None of the sitting trot.
Welcome to the ultimate event for riders who prefer their adrenaline without a side of lateral work. Never Mind the Dressage is a fast-paced, two-phase jumping competition combining a clean round of showjumping with a thrilling run over a cross-country course.
No white breeches required, no judges marking your halts, and absolutely no 20-meter circles!
How the Event Runs
This is a two-phase competition run under a split format. You will ride your showjumping round have a small break then head on down to the cross-country.
Phase 1: The Showjumping
Enter the arena and tackle a standard, timed course of knock-down showjumps. Run under BS rules.
3 stops = elimination.
Whip rule will apply.
Phase 2: The Cross-Country
Set onto the cross-country course to jump a selection of solid, inviting natural obstacles. This phase is timed against an optimum time. Rules will align with those of BE.
Scoring & Penalties
The rider with the lowest combined penalties across both phases wins.
Showjumping Penalties
Knockdown: 4 penalties
1st Refusal: 4 penalties
2nd Refusal: 8 penalties
3rd Refusal: Elimination
Fall of Rider/Horse: Elimination
Cross-Country Penalties
1st Refusal: 20 penalties
2nd Refusal (at same fence): 40 penalties
3rd Refusal (at same fence): Elimination
Cumulative Refusals (across course): 3 refusals results in elimination
Time Penalties: 0.4 penalties for every commenced second over or under the optimum time window.
🏆 How Ties are Broken:
In the event of equal penalties at the end of both phases, the rider who is closest to the optimum time on the cross-country phase (without going over) will be declared the winner.
Dress & Safety Rules
Because this event features a solid cross-country phase, safety rules are strictly enforced.
Body Protectors: A current up to date standard body protector (BETA Level 3) is compulsory for all competitors on the cross country course.
Helmets: Must meet current safety standards.
No fixed peaks (standard showjumping hats with rigid peaks are not allowed on the XC phase)
