IN FULL
Musician and funny guy Albert Arsenault, of Barachois and Chuck & Albert fame, and funny gal and improv enthusiast and teacher Laurie Murphy, most known for her sketch comedy work on PEI in Annekenstein and Drill Queens Comedy, are joining musical and comical forces. Their brand-new show is NEVER BEFORE SCENE—literally!—a combination of playful and not-so-gentle improv and serious fiddle running weekly on Thursday evenings, July 18 – August 29, 2024, 8pm – 10pm (including 15 intermission), at the Haviland Club, 2 Haviland Street, Charlottetown.
“Albert and I met when, as publicist, I promoted Barachois in its inaugural year at the Charlottetown Festival,” says Murphy, “And then, last summer, I had the delight to direct Albert in June Morrow’s PEI Fringe Festival hit, Six Songs About Six Men I’ve Dated. He’s a rare talent, and I’m thrilled that he and his wife, Julie Savoie (keyboardist), said yes to this new project! Outside of a guest appearance on Ebb & Flow last summer, the couple have not performed together, and it is on Albert’s bucket list to do a full show together.” Others saying “Yes, and… ,” the improv mantra known world-wide, is an ensemble of rotating improv players, new and established theatre and music artists, including Janet Coughlin Cameron, Margie Carmichael-Scotto, Sue Flower, Patti Larsen, Adam “Honker” MacDonald, Laurie Murphy, and Lucus Panizzi, as well as surprise players. Prince Edward Island celebrities who have good-naturedly agreed to be interviewed for an improv segment called, “Get to Know a PEI Celebrity,” include Anne & Gilbert’s “Anne,” theatre artist Rebekah Brown (Aug. 29), recording artist Catherine MacLellan (Aug. 15), biologist Kate MacQuarrie (Aug. 1), historian Ed MacDonald (Aug. 22), quill artist Melissa Peter-Paul (Jul. 25) amateur meteorologist Sheldon White (Jul. 18) and recording artist Nathan Wiley (Aug. 8). Bridget Driver provides Front-of-House and stage management.
Advance tickets are $25 per person via an e-transfer to [email protected], or online at https://marram.ca – “Buy early and avoid the Weston-like markup to $35 per person at the door, if tickets are available,” Murphy recommends. Heated PEI Handpies will be available for purchase pre-show, and bar service is available in the Haviland Club’s Taproom for patrons 19+ years of age - look for weekly signature cocktails. Enjoy air-conditioned comfort in Farringford House, a beautiful heritage building on the Charlottetown Harbour waterfront, at 2 Haviland Street, Charlottetown. Street parking is available, nearby.
