These two courses explore how to boost neuroplasticity in pediatric patients using simple reflex techniques. The courses can be taken together for a discount or separately.

Audience:

Clinicians who are interested in learning more about understanding neuroanatomy and brain development, and treating those with developmental delays.

• Physical Therapist • Occupational Therapist • Speech-Language Pathologist • Educator • Early Interventionist

Instuctor:

Karen Pryor PhD, PT, DPT, ND, CH, CPRCS specializes in neuroplasticity. With a firm belief, when you change the mind, the body follows. She is a physical therapist with 45 years of experience and a Naturopathic Doctor. The integration of multiple educational avenues has helped her design advanced programs for rewiring the brain of individuals of all ages. Karen is the Author of Ten Fingers Ten Toes Twenty Things Everyone Needs to Know available from Amazon and BookBaby. She received the “Outstanding Volunteer Service Award” from President Obama in 2010 for her work in advancing treatments in children. She received an appointment in 2014-2024 from Governor Bill Haslam and Governor Bill Lee to the Leadership Interagency Coordinating Council for birth to three-year-old children in Tennessee. Karen is an advisor for the Maori Foundation in Japan.

Karen has achieved great success in helping children reach their potential. Her treatment includes neuroplasticity techniques and innovations that change the way the brain functions in children with challenges and adults post-stroke or accident. By rewiring or changing the routes of information, from vision going to the occipital lobes to the auditory cortex, children could see through their ears. Karen has also developed techniques to change cerebral palsy tone, from spastic to approximately normal, so children could walk without bracing or walkers. Karen has also collaborated with her daughter Mica Foster, a chiropractor, to develop a successful dyslexia program to orient letters and numbers for children struggling with reading, and have given seminars together on pediatric pain.

Financial Disclosures:

Karen Pryor receives an honorarium fee from Easterseals DuPage & Fox Valley.

Non-Financial Disclosures:
Karen Pryor has no relevant non-financial relationships to disclose.

Day 1: Neuroplasticity for Children

Learn how therapy can change the brain and how neuroplasticity can change the challenges in a child’s development. With Dr. Karen Pryor (PhD, PT, DPT, ND, CH, CPRCS) as your guide, you gain creative and evidence-based approaches to incorporate into a multisensory experience to drive home the importance of diverse and novel activities during treatment sessions. Both high tone and low tone are discussed in depth. Video case studies will demonstrate changes before and after integrative neuroplasticity treatments. The therapy techniques learned in this one-day course can be easily integrated into the clinic or home the next day.

Objectives:
  1. Describe the primitive reflexes influence on movement patterns
  2. Identify the multilayer approach using neuroanatomy and brain function
  3. Evaluate strategies to incorporate techniques into home programs for parents and caregivers
  4. Recognize the importance of positive treatment sessions and verbal cues
  5. Analyze the relationship between brain dysfunction and tone abnormalities
  6. Restate different approaches to changing low and high tone qualities

Day 2: Primitive Reflex Integration: Neuroplasticity techniques for functional success in pediatrics

This course will empower you to create individualized, client-centered treatment plans that lead to significant improvements in your patients’ functional outcomes, helping you elevate your clinical practice to the next level.

Objectives:
  1. Analyze the impact of retained primitive reflexes on development and articulate how this affects daily living activities. (Gieysztor, 2018)
  2. Demonstrate the ability to evaluate and identify retained primitive reflexes in pediatric patients using standardized assessment tools. (Richards, 2022)
  3. Develop targeted intervention plans based on assessment results to improve functional outcomes in children with ADHD and. (Melillo, 2020)
  4. Explain the relationship between primitive reflex retention and cognitive function, particularly in relation to academic performance and learning disabilities. (Matuszkiewicz, 2021)
  5. Evaluate the effectiveness of various reflex integration exercises by measuring improvements in motor coordination and sensory processing in children with developmental delays. (Gieysztor, 2018)
  6. Apply neuroplasticity-based interventions to restore functional strength and improve gross motor skills, demonstrating a measurable impact on patient outcomes. (Niklasson, 2015)
