About this Event
<h4>
In this workshop you will learn how to make a linocut print with artist Nick Morley. The workshop is suitable for beginners as well as people with some experience of linocut.
All welcome.</h4>
Linocut printing involves carving a design out of a piece of linoleum (also known as lino), inking it with a roller and then printing it onto paper. It is a fun and accessible form of printmaking as you don’t need a lot of expensive equipment and it can easily be done at home.
In this workshop you will make a linocut print from a piece of lino which is 6 x 4 inches (approximately A6 size). The prints will be made using black ink. If you want to bring an image to work from you can, but it is usually better to make something up on the day, rather than having a fully formed design before you arrive. Nick can help you with your design in the workshop and if you don’t have any ideas of your own, Nick can make some suggestions.
The workshop consists of four parts:
- A demonstration where Nick will show you how to carve a piece of lino. Participants will be limited to 10 people. This will include how to hold the tools safely and how to use the different tools to create a range of marks.
- Carving your block under Nick's guidance.
- A printing demonstration. We will be using a small printing press and wooden spoons for printing.
- Printing your block under Nick's guidance with black ink.
More information for participants:
This workshop will take place in the auditorium at The Margate School. This is a sound-treated room with controlled lighting, but no natural light. A variety of workspaces and seating will be available.
