The Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) is the country’s largest governmental energy aggregator, serving Ohio communities and customers for the past 25 years. NOPEC leverages the collective strength of their 244 member communities to buy electricity and natural gas in bulk, passing the benefits on to the residents and small businesses they serve. In addition to saving customers hundreds of millions of dollars on their energy costs, NOPEC diligently advocates to preserve consumer choice in the energy industry and protect Ohio consumers from unreasonable utility rate increases. NOPEC also offers green electric product options via Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) equal to 100% of the amount of electricity used. Since 2017, NOPEC's programming has resulted in the retirement of over 9.9 million RECs. NOPEC also provides energy-efficiency grants to member communities and low-interest rate financing programs for small businesses and nonprofits to fund energy-efficiency improvements, reducing their energy spend and carbon footprint. NOPEC also supports energy education for Ohio students and residents, providing resources and tips to help them learn about energy and reduce their energy consumption.
