Nests: Mixed Media with Pippa Ashworth

Each species of bird has their own unique and diverse way of nest building, using leaves, grasses, moss, feathers and even human rubbish.
We will be exploring media from watercolour, and inks to acrylics to create inventive and inspiring work.

Pippa Ashworth is a professional landscape painter who produces texturally rich representatives of landscapes through an ever-changing relationship between observation and invention. She works primarily in water-based media but employs various homemade and found drawing and painting tools to build a vocabulary of marks.

Light and colour are also strong elements of her work, which she initially explores through photographs and sketchbooks and uses as inspiration for her work. Pippa has exhibited her work throughout the north of England, including Harlow Carr, Harrogate, Just Makers, Rippon, Huddersfield Art Gallery, Dean Clough, Halifax, Millyard Gallery, Uppermill.

• A2/A3 cartridge paper or watercolour paper if you prefer.
• Watercolour/acrylic paints - Primary colours and black and white (as good a quality as you can afford)
• A selection of inks
• Something to draw with, including crayons
• All materials are available to purchase through Calder Arts on the day, please allow enough time before beginning of class if you'd like to purchase anything.

Calder Art will provide the following materials for the workshop:

• Table Top Easel 13 x 17 12mm Warp-resistant MDF Board.

Fiona Edmondson is an experienced printmaker and Artist Educator. Originally studying Fine Art painting, she has for many years been fascinated by the qualities and variety of printmaking processes including etching, Gelli, Lino and collograph printing in her current work.

Minimum numbers apply for courses to run. Payment is due in full at the time of booking, either through the shop, phone or online. All sales are final unless transferring to another class in which a price difference will be paid. Full refunds will be given if the courses cannot take place. If you cannot make the classes for any reason no refunds will be given. We will allow the cost of tickets to be transferred to an alternative workshop (if space is available) but this request must be made at least 30 days before the start of the event you wish to transfer from, in such circumstances please give us a call at Calder Art Supplies 01484 422991.

Refreshments are available all day (tea, coffee, biscuits etc.) and there will be a lunch break of approximately one hour.

There are plenty of local shops and cafes in the area within close walking distance from the arcade.

Alternatively, you may bring your own lunch.

There is lift access to the studio on the second floor for those with mobility issues. Toilets are located close by on the studio level, however there is a small flight of stairs to access these. Alternatively, there are also toilets located on one level on the ground floor.

The nearest car park available to the venue is the multi-storey next to Huddersfield bus station. Levels 4, 5 & 6 - Monday to Saturday (8am to 6 pm)

£6.50 up to 6 pm.
