About Detroit Hives: Detroit Hives is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for both people and pollinators by transforming Detroit’s blighted vacant lots into thriving green spaces that inspire environmental stewardship and community pride. Founded in 2016, we have expanded to over 35 active locations across the city, managing more than 4.5 million honeybees and building partnerships with schools, organizations, and businesses to create lasting social, environmental, and economic impact.
In 2024, Detroit Hives proudly led efforts to help designate Detroit as the 207th certified Bee City USA Affiliate, reaffirming the city’s commitment to pollinator conservation and sustainability. Through our flagship programs, Bee The Change and Bee In Motion, we continue to educate the next generation of leaders on sustainability, wellness, and the power of movement—cultivating a healthier, more connected Detroit for all.
