About this Event
Celebrate vibrance and heritage on the Africatown tour in Southwest Philadelphia tour. This journey through the "Gateway to the City" begins at the Africa Center and continues to explore natural wonder and urban history, from the tranquil trails of the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge to the historic Blue Bell Tavern. Explore the spiritual heart of the community at the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, witness local artistry at the “Bridging the Gap Mural”, and experience the Mauritanian flavors of African Small Pot restaurant. Ending at the breathtaking Bartram’s Garden, this tour offers a powerful look at how Southwest Philadelphia continues to cultivate a rich, global legacy.

Cost: FREE, registration required.
Meeting Point: Independence Visitor Center (599 Market St, Philadelphia, PA 19106).
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to scheduled tour time and check-in at the Visitor Center Information Deck desk when you arrive.
The tour within the neighborhood is approximately 90 min with an additional time allotted for travel. Your tour will be led by a tour guide and a local tour host from the neighborhood.
Group Size: up to 35. Space is limited, please only reserve a space if you know you are able to attend. Space may be available for walk-up guests on a first-come, first-served basis.
If you are unable to attend your reserved tour, please cancel your Eventbrite reservation to allow others to enjoy the Jawnt.
Transportation to and from the neighborhood is provided via the Philly PHLASH Bus.
