ND Art Club - Slow Stiching

Neuro Diverse Art Club

This is our monthly creative club, specifically for neuro diverse adults. Each month we will take on a different project, in a friendly and welcoming environment.

In our May session Suzanne Pinder will be leading the group. She will teach us about decorating and repairing fabric using the Japanese art of Sashiko.

We will learn

• About the embroidery technique Sashiko
• How it is used in Japan to decorate and repair fabric
• To use simple embroidery stitches to join layers of fabric
• To repair or decorate our own pieces

This is a quiet, calm and relaxing session where you will learn to make something beautiful.

No previous experience of embroidery is needed for this session.

About Suzanne

Suzanne has a degree in Fine Art. She has been involved with Blackpool Tiggers, a charity that supports families living with Autism, for twenty years. She has been a printmaker for 9 years, attending Hot Bed Press in Salford, specialising in etching, monoprint, letterpress and bookbinding. Since retiring Suzanne has started studying for an HNC in Fashion, Textiles and Costume at Blackpool and the Fylde College. Of her work Suzanne says I love combining printmaking with textiles!

These sessions are in our downstairs workshop space. There is one small step through the front door, but we can arrange ramp access from the rear of the building if level access is required.

• Tram to North Pier
• Bus:
• No 6 or 18 bus to Topping St.
• No 3, 3a, 5c, 6, 18 to Church St (Stanley Buildings)
• No 5, 5a, 5b, 6, 7a, 14 to Talbot Rd
• Driving: The closest pay and display car parks are on East Topping St and Talbot Road multi storey. There is also parking at the nearby Sainsbury’s supermarket, please make sure that you check the terms before you use the car park.
