Prominent among the various initiatives undertaken by Citi and NCPA are two programmes: ‘Support to Guru-Shishya Tradition’ and ‘Scholarships to Young Musicians’. The ‘NCPA Citi Promising Artistes Series’ has been launched to offer a performance opportunity to the beneficiaries of these programmes.

Shruti Bujarbaruah (khayal)

Shruti Bujarbaruah is an Indian classical vocalist proficient in thumri, dadra, abhang, bhajan and ghazal. She can sing in multiple languages including Assamese, Hindi, English, Bengali and Marathi. Born and raised in Assam, she started her journey in music at the age of four under the guidance of her parents. She has completed the Sangeet Visharad and Sangeet Alankar from Bhatkhande Sangit Vidyapith, Lucknow. Over the years, Bujarbaruah has learnt under the guidance of Vijay Koparkar and Pratima Tilak. She has performed at festivals and music conferences across the country. She made her debut as a playback singer in 2009 with Jay Jadu Nandan, an Assamese devotional album and since then has lent her voice to various Marathi and Hindi tracks as well.

With an aim to connect with the new generation and showcase the global power of Indian classical music, she has conceptualised Bandish & Beyond, an album that reimagines traditional bandish in a contemporary soundscape.

Satrughna Beura (violin)

Satrughna Beura began his musical journey at the age of five under the guidance of his parents. He has been actively learning the violin under Dr. V. Balaji and Dr. N. Rajam since 2011. He completed his graduation and post-graduation in Hindustani Classical Violin from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. His musical style leans into the Gwalior gharana and he is known to tastefully blend traditional elements while exploring new avenues.

Beura has received the National Scholarship (2014-2016) from the Ministry of Culture, Citi-NCPA Scholarship (2020-21), among others. Some of his notable awards include Rajdhani Kala Sansad Award (2009), Inter-Faculty Youth Festival Spandan (2019) and UP Sangeet Natak Academy Award (2018).
