About this Event
Nazra: the Palestinian travelling film festival comes to Scotland
Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign (SPSC), in collaboration with the Nazra association and Tactics for Togetherness, proudly presents the Nazra Palestine Film Festival in Aberdeen.
Joining us online from Palestine will be Mahasen Nasser-Eldin, Palestinian filmmaker and researcher from Al-Quds, winner of the Nazra 2024 Best Documentary Short Film award for her work “The Silent Protest: 1929 Jerusalem”. Mahasen’s research focuses on the re/use of audio-visual archives to document displaced women’s histories through film.
Nazra in Arabic means “gaze”. The festival’s purpose is to broaden perspectives on the Palestinian issue, both for newcomers and those familiar to it. Through the cinema lens, the festival serves as both a filter and a tool of cultural resistance. At a time when Palestinian identity faces systematic erasure, Nazra aims to be an archive of Palestinian short films, showcasing their avant-garde spirit and amplifying the voices of Palestinian authors who might otherwise go unheard.
The event is free entry, though donations towards event costs are encouraged. There will be snacks and hot drinks provided.
