NAYAN
Band leader Nayan Bhula can't shake Rock N Roll. Hearing those first few notes of "Dazed and Confused" as a middle schooler led to a three decade plus spiral. Looking like your "Dad's accountant or doctor" (actual after show quote), he’s spent decades in the local scene and touring, tearing down those stereotypes of rock n roll. He started with post-punk outfit GIST who released 3 full length albums and toured up and down the East Coast & Canada. This transformed to a decade with the 8-piece orchestrated indie-folk-rock ensemble The NRIs, who released five EPs. Along the way, he’s shared bills with Rilo Kiley, Lungfish, Moneen, Travis Morrison (Dismemberment Plan), Juliana Hatfield, Laura Stevenson, Biz Markie, Khaira Arby, to name a few. The new band leans on his post-punk, indie rock roots, taking inspiration from DC punk and an unwavering devotion to classic rock n roll, and the 80s New Wave he grew up on.
Roscoe Tripp
is an indie rock band from Washington, DC, influenced by Pavement, Modest Mouse, and Elliott Smith, although they don't really sound like much like any of them. Here's what someone who is gooder at writing said,
“If, when you think of the golden age of indie, you conjure in your mind a sort of effervescent, upbeat and infectious, immediate and accessible strain of hook-laden, guitar-fueled music, something that seems to sit between the pop-aware and the rock-driven, then you are going to love ROSCOE TRIPP.”
- The Big Takeover, October 16, 2024
Old Knife
Old Knife is a trio of musicians (Maddie Franca, Ella Gallogly & V.J. Hyde) in Northern Virginia making music inspired by DC/NY Hardcore, Post Punk and No Wave hallmarks. A wood and wire aesthetic inhabits songs that dissect the emotional, political and spiritual paradoxes pumping through the veins of contemporary society. Old Knife’s music will cut you to the bone.
