About this Event

🌞The Fire of Compassion · A Winter Solstice Festival at Temple Mother Earth
A Ten-Day Tibetan Art & Ceremony Experience with Venerable Lama Tashi Norbu

This December, Temple Mother Earth in Washington DC welcomes Venerable Lama Tashi Norbu, Tibetan Buddhist monk, painter, and founder of the Museum of Tibetan Art & Culture for a transformative Winter Solstice gathering.
Over ten days, our sanctuary becomes a living mandala where art, mantra, and ceremony merge to ignite the fire of compassion within each of us.

Everything is energy. Every color, sound, and movement creates a vibration that awakens something deep inside. You’re invited to step into this frequency and be part of a rare cross-cultural collaboration between Tibetan and Earth-based wisdom.

🔥 Why This Week Is Transformative
  • Fire as Purification: In Tibetan practice, fire ceremonies (Jinsek or Homa) are powerful methods to clear karmic obstacles, awaken inner light, and transform dense energy into wisdom.
  • Art as Meditation: Through live painting, sand mandala creation, and sacred tattooing, Lama Tashi demonstrates how art becomes prayer , a bridge between the seen and unseen worlds.
  • Sound as Healing: The Tibetan Healing Concert uses mantra, voice, horns, and bowls to awaken cellular memory and open pathways of compassion.
  • Tattoo as Sacred Imprint: The Tibetan Sacred Tattoo is a living mantra, a permanent prayer inscribed on the body to seal protection, purpose, and power.

Each day of this festival is a ceremonial portal from temple blessings to fire rituals designed to help you embody the solstice’s essence: the return of light through inner awakening.

📜 Festival Highlights
🕯 Temple Blessing · Dec 12

A Buddhist Home & Heart Blessing opens the festival — harmonizing the temple through mantra, incense, and vibration. The space itself becomes a vessel for devotion and awakening.

🎨 Opening Festival · Dec 13
  • Opening Invocation – A collective breath aligning every heart to presence.
  • Live Painting – Lama Tashi paints directly from meditation; art becomes spirit in motion.
  • Lama Dance – Movement as mantra; body dissolving into sound.
  • Sand Mandala – A teaching on impermanence through color and symmetry.
  • Tibetan Healing Concert – Bowls, bells, and chant restore balance through sacred sound.

💎 Sacred Tibetan Tattoo Prayers · Dec 13 – 20

Each design is a personal mantra in ink, revealed through the ancient Tibetan astrological system. Lama Tashi sings, writes, and inscribes your mantra while teaching you to embody its vibration.
A once-in-a-lifetime initiation to turn your body into a living prayer.

🐍 Sacred Serpent Embodiment · Dec 16 – 18

Guided by the serpent, the timeless teacher of transformation, these evenings weave breath, sound, and Tibetan chant into a field of deep renewal.
This ceremony is offered in compassionate support of King James and all who walk healing paths, demonstrating how ancient technologies of breath and sound can awaken life force.

🐸 Kambo with Tibetan Prayers · Dec 14

A rare fusion of Amazonian Earth medicine and Tibetan mantra.
Mantras and prayers accompany the kambo process, balancing physical purification with spiritual harmony, a sacred dialogue between forest and monastery.

🥗 Community Potluck · Dec 15

An evening of story, food, and gratitude with Lama Tashi and the Temple family. To share food is to share energy; community is medicine.

🔥 Winter Solstice Closing · Dec 21

The longest night births new light.
A Tibetan Healing Concert flows into a Sacred Fire Ceremony, inviting collective release and renewal as the mandala of compassion closes in peace.
