Navigation Essentials is a hands-on, one-day course where you'll learn the fundamentals of map reading and compass use — giving you the skills and confidence to plan and follow your own routes in the hills.
Perfect for anyone who wants to stop relying on others to navigate, this practical course takes you straight out onto Lake District terrain where you'll learn by doing. By the end of the day, you'll be able to read a map confidently, use a compass effectively, and navigate competently on your own walks.
What You'll Learn:

✅ Follow natural handrails like paths, walls and streams with confidence
✅ Understand contours so the shape of the ground makes sense
✅ Use your compass to set and hold a direction
