Navigating Data Center Growth: Tools for Local Decision-Making
As data center development accelerates across Central Ohio, communities are facing important decisions about growth, infrastructure, land use, environmental impacts, and economic opportunity. This interactive workshop moderated by Planning NEXT brings together elected officials, planning and zoning professionals, and economic development staff to explore the challenges and opportunities presented by data center development.
Designed for communities navigating active proposals, currently under or considering moratoriums, or preparing for future development interest, this half-day workshop will provide practical tools, real-world examples, and actionable strategies for informed decision-making. Participants will examine key issues such as water use, energy demand, fiscal impacts, and land use compatibility, while learning how to leverage comprehensive planning, zoning regulations, and community benefits agreements to protect local priorities and negotiate from a position of strength. Participants will leave with valuable resources, peer insights, and next steps tailored to their community's needs.
A survey will be shared with attendees prior to the workshop to help shape the conversation.
Registration is required; lunch will be provided. For questions, please contact Amanda McEldowney at [email protected].
