Howard Gillman is chancellor of the University of California, Irvine, and an award-winning scholar of the American Constitution and the Supreme Court, holding faculty appointments in UC Irvine’s School of Law and Department of Political Science. He is the author of He also co-chairs the advisory board of UC’s National Center for Free Speech and Civic Engagement. Before becoming chancellor in 2014, Gillman served as UC Irvine’s provost and executive vice chancellor, and previously spent two decades at the University of Southern California, including as dean of the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. He earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in political science at UCLA.
Gillman will also join us at the Hall Center for the first Sawyer Seminar of the semester. On Wednesday, September 9 at 12:00 PM, all are welcome to attend "Fear of Conflict in the Heartland" for continued discussion on academic freedom.
