Nature Walk to CWC

California Wildlife Center is opening up site visits to our broader community! Meet us inside Malibu Creek State Park and enjoy an easy hike down the Backbone Trail and Piuma Road to CWC with center staff. Along the way we'll introduce you to the neighboring plants and animals that make our location in the Santa Monica Mountains so special.

From the 101: Take Las Virgenes Rd toward Malibu Canyon. Past Mulholland, just before Piuma Rd, look for the sign for Tapia Park Public Use Area on the right. Pay for parking at the kiosk or via the code on signage, then proceed down the road to the picnic area. Look for signage for California Wildlife Center.

From PCH: Take Malibu Canyon Rd inland toward Calabasas. After exiting the canyon, just after Piuma Rd, look for the sign for Tapia Park Public Use Area on the left. Pay for parking at the kiosk or via the code on signage, then proceed down the road to the picnic area. Look for signage for California Wildlife Center.

California Wildlife Center's core work is the rescue and rehabilitation of sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife. Due to the sensitive nature of our patients, time onsite at CWC will be limited to viewing the outside of the facility and will not include direct viewing of any of our wild animal patients.

Participants will be required to sign a liability waiver. CWC will make every effort to honor reservations but availability may change subject to weather, staff availability and trail conditions. The walk to CWC is along both roads and trails, and includes area-typical hazards such as poison oak, insects, rattlesnakes and a shallow creek crossing. Participants are advised to wear long pants, hiking boots or shoes, and sun protection. Participants should be comfortable walking up to a total of two miles and navigating uneven or sloped terrain.
