Nature Journaling: Getting to Know Your Wild Neighbors
About this Event
Join us on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Santa Maria Natural History Museum for a fun and creative morning of nature journaling!
What is nature journaling? It's the practice of recording your observations, connections, and reflections from nature through drawing and writing.
This event is open to adults and kids ages 6+ and welcomes participants of all drawing experience levels.
We'll begin with a brief introduction to nature journaling and explore the Museum garden and collections to get to know some of the plants and animals that live all around us. Then you'll get to work on your own nature journal!
The program will be led by Dr. Amanda Sparkman, a biology professor at Westmont College and author of the California Wild Neighbors book series. Amanda's books help readers discover and connect with the plants and animals that share our communities.
She'll share insights from her work and will be giving away a few copies of her books to lucky participants.
We will provide all materials for this event, including drawing notebooks and colored pencils. Spanish interpreters will also be available!
