Cumberland Island National Seashore is Georgia's largest barrier island and one of its most protected. But the island hosts more than wildlife and stunning natural landscapes—it also has iconic historic structures, like the Dungeness ruins and the First African American Baptist Church. Preserving cultural resources like these takes a lot of work and expertise and is a key component of the National Park system.
Join us for our Naturalist 101 lecture, “Caring for Cumberland's Cultural Resources" with National Park Service curator Kayleigh Hendley, for a behind-the-scenes look into upkeeping our historic and cultural public treasures and a unique angle on a much-beloved barrier island.
Doors open at 6:30 pm. The lecture begins at 7 pm, with Q&A to follow. Light refreshments will be served.
This event is free, but we ask that you RSVP so we can plan accordingly. We will also livestream the event via Facebook; please tune in and participate virtually if you can't make it in person!
