Camp Descriptions:
If you have any questions on where your rider fits in or you are not currently in Betsy’s lesson program, please contact us. Also, if you are interested in a camp but may not fit exactly into the age range, please also inquire as these are more general recommendations.
Beginner/Intermediate Jumping: English riders, aged 9-16. Campers must be able to ride independently at a canter, but no jumping experience is required. Campers will learn horsemanship ground games that improve their horse's jumping confidence and focus on equitation on the flat in the morning. Then, everybody's favorite in the afternoon, jumping! If you enjoy jumping or are interested in future eventing, this is the camp for you!
Advanced/ElIte Eventing: For mature riders aged 18 and under that have jumping experience and looking to go to the next level. We study the three phases of Eventing: Stadium Jumping, where campers race the clock to clear the course with no faults; Cross Country Jumping, where campers complete a jump course through the fields, woods, and creeks; and Dressage, where riders focus on controlling the horse. This camp includes an off-property haul to a cross country course.
Western Dressage/Working Equitation: Designed for both English and Western riders, ages 9-18, that are intermediate or advanced walk, trot, and canter. Riders will explore either western dressage or classical dressage, depending on their preference. Learn to negotiate an ease of handling and speed trail course for Working Equitation. Additionally, this camp will prepare riders for our onsite WE show the weekend following camp. Campers will also help set up for the show. Campers are not required to participate in the onsite show (show is optional).
Beginner/Intermediate: English and Western riders, ages 7-14. We welcome riders with little to no experience as well as those proficient in walking/trotting. Campers will enjoy horse husbandry, horsemanship, and ground games in the morning, a craft/activity mid-day, and riding in the afternoon. This camp is primarily supported by our junior instructors, as well as our youth leaders that volunteer to have increased support for our younger, beginner riders.
Camp Details:
Camps are held daily, Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Wild at Heart Ranch and are available for kids ages 7-18. A typical day consists of morning feeding of the 40+ horses on property and barn work, both in and out of the saddle work, and a craft or classroom session. We keep the schedule fluid so we can cater to the specific students' needs and skill levels. If weather is not conducive to riding, non-mounted educational opportunities are provided. Note additional activities are involved for both of the advanced camps - Working Equitation camp will include tasks related to setting up for the onsite show the following weekend, and Eventing Camp includes an off-property cross-country course. Campers may use a ranch horse or bring their own. Additional costs apply if boarding your horse at WHR for the week.
