About this Event
THE PRESENTATION
Curious about natural pigments? Julie will talk about how she extracts pigments and transform flowers, indigo plant, and mushrooms into inks and paints. Along with a short demonstration with mushroom pigments, paints and inks, she will talk about her recently published book “The Mushroom Color Atlas”. Come listen, and learn, about the interconnectedness of pigments and the amazing array of natural dyes that nature offers.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Julie Beeler is a designer, artist, and educator who grew up with a deep love for and curiosity about the natural world. She experiments with the unpredictability of plants and fungi by growing and harvesting, observing and foraging, and tethering herself to nature’s seasons. Her recent book, published by award-winning Chronicle Books, The Mushroom Color Atlas, is a resource and reference mushrooms and the beautiful and subtle colors derived from dyeing with mushrooms. When she is not foraging for plants, you can find Julie tending the soil, working in her art studio, or leading workshops at Bloom & Dye, an 18-acre WSDA certified organic flower farm along the White Salmon River in Trout Lake.
