ebonnerlibrary.org/events/natural-connections-august-weaving-traditionsYou are invited to spend the day with the Kalispel Tribe Culture Department to experience weaving and twining in constructing cedar baskets. Cedar baskets have been used historically and are still used today to gather traditional foods and plants.
In this hands-on workshop knowledge will be shared regarding how cedar is harvested and prepared for use. Weave a mini cedar basket that will be turned into a salt and pepper shaker holder and/or a necklace that you can take home. Also available to weave is a medallion necklace from cedar and other materials.
Bring your own lunch for this all-day workshop which will be held in the Sandpoint Library Garden (unless weather takes us inside). All supplies and materials for weaving will be provided.
The Kalispel Tribe Culture Department is co-sponsoring and offering this event as part of their role in “Living, preserving, protecting, and teaching their culture.” A double lobby window display in the Sandpoint Library will also be available for viewing a few days before the workshop and will stay up for about a month.
