About this Event
Natural Colors and the Science of Art
with Rebeccah Cope
Friday, May 1 | 1 – 4pm
Explore why we see the world the way we do in a hands-on science lab and head outdoors to explore the amazing world of natural colors found in and around the NC Arboretum’s gardens. Discover animal, vegetable and mineral sources such as the roots, leaves and flowers of plants and trees, precious stones, bug parts, charred bones and other natural materials that have historically been used to make paint, inks, dyes and food colorants, including those which are traditional to Southern Appalachia. Make paint using colored earth pigments and natural binders.
This program will take place outside and will follow easy trails and paved walkways. Dress for the weather and prepare to be outside for the entire program time.
