This summer, you can make a meaningful contribution to RMNP's biodiversity while gaining experience in conservation practices!
The Vegetation Program at Rocky Mountain National Park restores disturbed sites throughout the park to preserve native vegetation, protect our soils, and prevent the spread of invasives species. We respond to areas that have been degraded by construction, human use, or severe natural events. Established in the 1980s and guided by a management plan, our program focuses on using locally collected native plant materials to ensure ecological integrity.

What to Expect:
Volunteers will be reseeding small fire scars created during pile burning for fuels reduction. Locations will include Deer Mountain and Lily Lake, and work occurs in exposed conditions (full sun, rain, wind). Reseeding involves hiking short distances up to several miles, scarifying soil (raking), hand seeding at specific rates, and gathering and spreading on-site mulch material.
Time: 9:00am - 3:00pm. Volunteers should plan to stay for the full duration of this event.
Who: This volunteer event is open to participants ages 18 and over.
Parking/meeting location: Please meet in the outdoor plaza in front of the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center. Volunteers will be driven into the park via a shuttle.
Work sites: Deer Mountain and Lily Lake. Sites may change depending on conditions.
Nearest bathroom: Bathrooms may be inaccessible for most of the event period. Be prepared to answer nature’s call in nature.
What to bring: Layers for rapidly changing weather, rain gear, sun protection (sunscreen, hat, sunglasses), long sleeve shirt and long pants, sturdy close-toed shoes, lunch and snacks, at least 2 liters of water per person, gloves (if you prefer your own), and a day pack to hold everything.
