The workshop has two sessions. For one hour, you’ll learn how to identify and collect viable seed from our prairie area at CGS. Plants include asters, coneflowers, ironweed, milkweed, native grasses, and more.* We’ll discuss winter stratification (cold dormancy) methods, plus tools and materials that lead to successful spring seed germination.
During the next hour, you’ll learn how to make hardwood cuttings of deciduous shrubs including shrub dogwood, forsythia, ninebark, viburnum, and willow.* You’ll practice making pruning cuts, using rooting materials, and placing the cuttings into a growing area.
*We’ll use plants that are seasonally ready for propagation. Everyone takes home up to three small envelopes of seeds they harvest, plus up to 6 hardwood cuttings.
Class fee is $40. This class sells out every year!
