Native Plant ID - Willows & Cottonwoods

Cottonwoods and willows are the most common riparian tree species in California and yet many of us have little idea of how to tell them apart. For the June meeting, Tom Lee will lead a discussion about the Salicaceae (Willow) family.
Even if you don’t have anything to contribute, join us as we look at plant samples and photos and practice methods of identifying the native flowers of our region. We will use a variety of plant books and online resources as we endeavor to improve our understanding of botanical terms used in plant identification. The Chapter has 10x hand lenses and dissecting microscopes that we can use to look at small
plant parts or bring your own lens.
The group meets at 7:00pm on the fourth Tuesday of each month
Location: Raptor Suite, Peninsula Conservation Center (PCC), 3921 E. Bayshore Road in Palo Alto. For more information please contact Janet Hoffmann at [email protected].
Directions to the PCC: From Hwy. 101 take the San Antonio Rd. exit and head north. Take the next left onto East Bayshore, which will curve left then right. Take the next right onto Corporation Way. The entrance to the PCC parking lot is the first driveway on the left. The conference rooms are on the first floor.
