About this Event
What you can expect from this Make It & Take It Workshop:
In this workshop, you will learn two very easy ways to prepare native seeds for spring planting:
1. Winter Seed Sowing in Container Greenhouses, and
2. Seed Balls broadcast planting
Why start your Garden Seeds now?
Winter is the best time to plant your Native Plant Seeds to be ready for your spring gardening. Winter Sowing allows the needed temperature and moisture changes that are essential for native seeds to sprout and grow. Once warm weather arrives so you can work in the garden, your "greehouse" plants will be big enough to dig them in!
Seed Balls are a way to hold native plant seeds in clay and dirt that protects them until spring. If you have a larger area to plant, these Seed Balls (sometimes called "Seed Bombs!) can then be tossed into the desired area. The seeds have a much better chance to sprout and grow than if you broadcast just the seeds - the clay and dirt protect them from birds, and provide moisture and medium for growth.
All Materials will be Provided for this Free Event!
Just bring yourself and your desire to start or expand your Native Garden and Yardscape.
However, donations will be much appreciated!
Sarah Pregitzer will be leading this workshop. Sarah is an Educator, Master Naturalist, and Conservation Steward. She is passionate about transforming homeowner gardens and disturbed lands into robust, native habitats for pollinators and wildlife.
