Native Art Painting Experience: Paint Your Own Formline Humpback Whale
About this Event
Paint your own Formline Humpback Whale with Formline Artist and Tlingit tribal member, Bill Pfeifer, Jr.!
As you paint, Bill will share stories about this powerful creature from oral histories that will help you encounter the rich connections of an ancient art form, depicting animals, supernatural beings, and figures.
In Tlingit culture, the Humpback Whale (Yáay) symbolize greatness, strength, wisdom, and the profound spiritual connection between humans and the ocean.
What to Expect:
-A hands-on chance to learn technique, paint, ask Bill questions, and honor a living tradition.
-No painting experience is required; all you need is the willingness to use your inner creativity and embrace the beauty of formline.
-This unique art-making session invites you to explore the visual language of the native peoples of the Northwest Coast of North America.
We hope you will join us at the ASHHO Cultural Comunity Center for this fun and cultural experience in painting!
