Join staff and volunteers for a celebration of Indigenous culture. Observe demonstrations and learn about the Indigenous Peoples that lived in Southeast Texas. Follow a storytrail as you walk to the replica Akokisa Village to see how people lived off the land. Visit demonstration booths and participate in hands-on activities with community partners, like Caddo Mounds State Park, Bayou Land Conservancy, Texas Archaeological Society, American Indian Center, Spring Historical Museum, Starbucks (with yaupon tea to sample) and more! Note: booths will close at 11:00 a.m. to give patrons enough time to walk to the stage for the special event.
Chikawa Aztec Dance will perform at 11:30 a.m. on the stage in the greenspace across from the Nature Center.
Plenty of hands-on activities for patrons of all ages, led by community volunteers. Volunteers needed; contact the park for more information at [email protected]
Scouts can work towards their badge in American Indian Culture.
Our greenspace & stage are accessible from the main parking lot, but the surface is grass. The Akokisa village is a 1/3-mile hike on an uneven gravel trail, and the village has mulch trails, neither of which are wheelchair accessible. Sturdy strollers or wagons are recommended for younger audiences.
