National Road 2

Running 186 kilometres between Tallinn and Tartu, National Road 2 follows a postal route that has been in service since the 18th century. The present alignment has served as the main road since the late 1940s. Plans to expand to a 2+2 profile are proceeding in two distinct stages with the first section being opened in 2022, shortening the road by five kilometres. Roughly half of National Road 2 is now four-lane with a third of it remaining two-lane. The state is obliged to complete the full profile by 2030. No new section has started its construction process since 2022. No funding decision exists as of today.
On the 31st of July, the next stage opens in Tallinn, four years ahead of schedule. Four lanes, both directions, in a 2+2 profile. Traffic continues until the road runs out. We have no returns scheduled.
