National Museum of Singapore’s Singapore History Gallery

Following a comprehensive revamp, the National Museum of Singapore’s flagship Singapore History Gallery reopens on 10 October 2026 with a refreshed experience tracing 700 years of the nation’s history. First opened in 2006 and updated in 2015, the gallery returns with new themes, perspectives and expanded narratives, including a connection to Singapore Odyssea: A Journey Through Time, an immersive multimedia voyage across Singapore’s key milestones and myths that sets the stage for deeper exploration.

At its heart is a timeless question: Who are we? The revamped gallery presents a living, people-centred journey through Singapore’s evolving identity that has been shaped by the region, the world and the many communities that call this island home. Encounter familiar national treasures alongside never-before-seen artefacts, new research and untold stories gathered across generations, which connect the broad strokes of history to the voices of those who lived them. 

Explore the making of Singapore across defining chapters – from its origins as a thriving kingdom of the Malay world, through colonial rule and wartime occupation, to its independence and evolution into a vibrant global city. 

Beyond the rich array of artefacts, hands-on displays and digital interactives invite visitors to discover the collective experiences and memories that have contributed to Singapore’s identity, and to share their own reflections on the nation’s past, present and future.
