Local author to host book signing event on National Hot Dog Day (July 15, 2026)
Bordentown, NJ — To celebrate National Hot Dog Day on Wednesday, July 15, local author Mark Neurohr-Pierpaoli will team up with the historic Russ Ayres Hot Dogs (680 US-206, Bordentown, NJ 08505) for a special "meat-n-greet" book signing event.
The annual holiday, traditionally recognized on the third Wednesday of July (also known as National Hot Dog Month), seeks to honor the humble hot dog with a day of recognition and appreciation.
To mark the occasion, Neurohr-Pierpaoli will sign copies of his new book, New Jersey Hot Dogs: A Frank History. Both paperback and hardcover versions will be available for purchase.
Russ Ayres Hot Dogs will host the event from 5PM to 7PM. Owner Chris Baldassari will provide customers a free hot dog with the purchase of a book. Guests are encouraged to stay for dessert afterward at the attached Bordentown Creamery.
Part history, part travel guide, New Jersey Hot Dogs: A Frank History is flush with historical photos and tantalizing full color pictures of decadent, delicious, and ready-to-eat frankfurters. In the back, a lengthy checklist of the hot dog joints mentioned throughout the book is printed for ease of readers to plan their next hot dog road trip.
Russ Ayres is noted in the book for what is likely the oldest and longest continuously operating hot dog cart in New Jersey, if not farther afield (the author’s scope of expertise remains largely confined within state lines).
“Russ Ayres provides a unique experience amongst a crowded field of weenies,” says Neurohr-Pierpaoli. “Not only do they have the oldest hot dog cart in the state, they sell a relatively hard to find Hatfield frank made of beef and pork.”
“We haven’t changed much since 1942,” adds Baldassari. “We traditionally sell dirty water dogs, but a lot of people from North Jersey like them fried, so we’ll do that for customers upon request.”
New Jersey Hot Dogs: A Frank History was released by Arcadia Press in May. Mark Neurohr-Pierpaoli is the host of I Never Sausage a Hot Dog! on Youtube, Facebook, and Instagram. He has documented over 200 local hot dog stands in and around NJ since 2018.
