WHY DO WE CELEBRATE?
National Donut Day, a beloved American holiday, originated from the compassionate efforts of The Salvation Army Donut Lassies during World War I. These brave women provided soldiers with donuts to boost morale and bring a taste of home to the front lines.
In the spirit of their generosity, The Salvation Army continues to celebrate this tradition by spreading sweetness and joy to communities across the nation each year on Donut Day. Today, we use this holiday to unite the community and raise awareness about military veterans in San Diego County who are facing challenges. The Salvation Army is committed to helping veterans and others in need rebuild their lives and find hope.
