National Book Critics Circle Panel Discussion on Literary Criticism
About this Event
The National Book Critics Circle presents a panel discussion on both the craft of literary criticism and new opportunities for book critics in today’s challenging environment. The conversation will range from practical tips to the art of the review.
About the participants:
Joanna Biggs is member of the National Book Critics Circle board, and was a finalist for the Nona Balakian Citation for Excellence in Reviewing in 2024. She is a contributing editor at The Yale Review and is the author of A Life of One’s Own: Nine Women Writers Begin Again.
Emily Greenhouse is the editor of the New York Review of Books. She is the former managing editor of The New Yorker. She serves on the advisory board of the National Book Critics Circle.
Joumana Khatib is an editor and writer at The New York Times Book Review, and began her career at The Times over a decade ago. She writes a twice-weekly newsletter about publishing and literature, and is a frequent guest on the Book Review‘s podcast.
Zoë Hu is the managing editor of n+1. She has written criticism and essays for the Baffler, the Washington Post, Bookforum, and other places.
Adam Dalva’s writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The Paris Review, The New York Times, and The New York Review of Books. He is the President of the National Book Critics Circle. Adam teaches Creative Writing at Rutgers University.
