The Birth of a Nation
The origins of new metal trio NATION OF PAIN go back to 2008 in the far north suburbs of Chicago.
Former MORTAR drummer Scott Rothschild hit up old friend Gary Modica, bassist for metal band WRATH to play and record on some songs that Rothschild had been working on. They needed a guitarist as well, so Gary asked Scott Nyquist, also in WRATH at the time, to participate. Nyquist quickly hopped on, as the three had known each other for years through their respective bands playing thrash shows together in the 80’s and early 90’s. They had solid metal history.
They got together and went right to work on fine tuning the songs. There was a noticeable chemistry that was clear from the minute they got into the same room together.
Feeling inspired in mid-2022, Nyquist contacted Rothschild and Modica about possibly getting together to jam and maybe write some music. No obligations. No agendas. Zero pressure.
Once again, without hesitation, they were all in. In late October 2022, the three dove in and quickly came up with new material. It felt right; the chemistry was as if it never ended, and they continued to write and revisit the material they had previously written. It was clear by this point that this was going to be more than just a project again. It was a band.
