About this Event

Join Us for the Book Launch of Natasha: A True Story of Disability, Caring and Politics

Come along to the launch of Seamus Cowman’s landmark book documenting his, Nenette’s and their entire family’s 19-years of caring for their beloved Natasha who had additional needs and an intellectual disability.

Follow them as they discover what Senator Tom Clonan calls in the foreword “the casual and cruel obstacles that an ableist state places in the way of disabled citizens”. See do you recognize “the pervasive discriminatory practices that persist in Ireland”, challenges which still confront the senator while caring for his adult son who was born with a neuromuscular disease.

Help to celebrate the launch of a tale of triumph and defeat in the face of adversity which will intensify the ongoing campaigns for improved supports for a community of people with very challenging conditions who, when Professor Cowman was a boy, were by and large expected to die in childhood.

Professor Emeritus Seamus Cowman returns to Avista, St. Vincent's Center where Natasha was cared for at 18.30 hours on May 8th to sign copies of his book. Seamus will be joined by Tony Murray (Chairperson of Before We Die Campaign) and others on the night.

Meet the author, buy a copy, and connect with others passionate about the importance of disability, caring and the right to adequate support.

All proceeds from the book’s sales will go directly to the Avista Foundation, which helped to nurture Natasha at St Vicent’s Centre for Disability and Support Services based on Dublin’s Navan Road.
