Afternoon Ethics Workshop -
Ethics of AI in Social Work Practice: How do we know what we know?

1 :00 - 4:15 pm - at the Hotel Concord or virtually

Three Clinical Category A CEs in Ethics approved by NASW NH #

Alison Mitchell, PhD, LICSW

Generative Artificial Intelligence (genAI) has become widely available. AI isn’t “coming” to Social Work practice, it is here. Social Work students – our upcoming generation of practitioners and providers - are learning how to work with generative AI, its potentials and pitfalls, ethical issues, and social justice considerations. Are you ready?

This workshop will demonstrate how to generate an AI response to a prompt. Using that response, participants will take part in hands-on activities and discussion to consider uses, misuses, social justice implications, and importantly, identify and apply ethical standards and decision-making frameworks. We will weigh how and when incorporating generative AI into Social Work practice might be useful versus harmful. Ultimately, participants will be encouraged to form their own opinions and strategies for how they decide to incorporate or not incorporate generative AI into their SW practice.

TRAINING OUTCOMES

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Generate an AI response to a prompt using at least 2 generative AI platforms;
  • Identify and explain ethical standards relating to use of AI in Social Work practice;
  • Evaluate how and when they might incorporate generative AI into their practice using ethical decision-making frameworks as a guide
