NASA HQ In-Person Event: Revolutionizing Medicine - in Space
About this Event
Meet AVATAR, an experiment small enough to fit in your hand that carried living human cells from the Artemis II crew on their journey around the Moon. During this presentation and Q&A with Dr. Lisa Carnell, director of NASA's Biological and Physical Sciences Division, discover how "organ chips" the size of a thumb drive can breathe like a lung and beat like a heart, why NASA wants to know how deep space affects each astronaut before we go to Mars, and how the same technology is paving the way for improvements of biomedical research in aging, disease, and cancer treatments. This research, combined with other studies on the health and performance of Artemis II astronauts, gives NASA insight into how to best protect astronauts as exploration expands to the surface of the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
Before or after the event, guests can choose their own adventure with a NASA-themed cafe to indulge in, the NASA Exchange store to peruse, and two immersive spaces to discover artifacts, rover replicas, Moon rocks and more!
This event is appropriate for all ages and there is no cost to attend. Seating is available on a first -come, first-served basis.
